managedmaps provides an easy way for you to add an interactive map
to your web site. Just follow the instructions below to add a professional and functional
map to your page. The first five days are free!

Signing In
|
|
Sign in to the managedmaps site through Windows Live ID. If you use
Windows Live Messenger or Windows Live Hotmail this is the same username and password
you use to access those services.
|
|
1. Click
the Sign in link at the top right of the Home page.
|

|
|
2. Sign
in with your Live ID, or sign up for a Live ID from this page if you don’t already
have one.
NOTE: Only one map can be created per Live ID at this time.
|

|
|
Define the Map
|
|
Define the map by giving it a name, designating a size, and selecting
a center point. These details can be changed at any time.
|
|
1. Fill
in the following fields with your information:
· Map Name (what you want to call the map)
· Email Address (can be different from your Live ID – you will receive
a confirmation request)
· Width (500-2000 pixels)
· Height (200-2000 pixels)
|

|
2. Select
where you would like to have the center of the map appear (i.e., Australia, America,
etc.)
a. If
you select Specified, blank address fields will appear. The map center can
be specified to an address or latitude/longitude numbers.
b. Press
the Lookup button after entering an address to see latitude/longitude numbers.
|

|
|
3. Use
the check box to select whether or not you would like the visitors to your site
to be able to see the map dashboard (control panel) on the map in the upper left
and top.
Note: If not selected, they will still be able to zoom
in and out using the mouse wheel.
|

|
|
4. In
the Map Style list, click Hybrid, Road, or Aerial to select which view visitors
will see on your site. If you have elected to include the dashboard, visitors will
be able to change their view.
|

|
|
5. In
the Pushpin Style list, click a color for pushpins if you will be adding pushpin
locations to your map.
|

|
Adding Pushpin Locations
|
|
Add pushpins to the map at anytime (before or after saving the map
for the first time).You can add pushpins to map locations by uploading an xlsx or
xml file. If you will not be adding pushpins, skip to the Viewing the Map
section below.
|
|
1. Get
a template for the file by using the xlsx (Step a) or xml (Step b)
template link, depending on your preference.
|

|
|
a. xlsx
Template: Click on the xlsx
link, then:
i. Click the button to
open the zip file.
ii. Open the Excel Template.
iii. Fill in either the
address fields or the latitude and longitude fields (not both) in the spreadsheet
to designate pushpin locations.
iv. Save the template
to a place you will remember. You will upload it in Step 2.

b. xml
Template: Click on the xlm link, then:
i. Click the button to
save the zip file.
ii. Extract the Template
file.
iii. Edit the XML Template
in Notepad.
iv. Save the file as
an XML document to a place you will remember. You will upload it in step 2.
|

2. Upload
your saved xlsx or xml file by browsing to it, then clicking the Upload my data points
button.
|

|
|
Viewing the Map
|
|
You can view the map once you have saved it.
|
|
1. Save
the map by clicking the Save Changes button at the bottom of the manage
tab. Your map will appear in the view tab.
If you added pushpins, the pushpins will appear on the map and the
latitude, longitude, title, and description of all the pushpins will appear below
the map.

|
2. When
you float the pointer over a pushpin, the text or image that was added to the Title,
Description, and Address fields of the xlsx or xml files will display
in a window. Click the Close button to close the window.
|

|
|
Editing Pushpin Locations
|
|
If you know the latitude and longitude of locations, you can add,
delete, or edit pushpin locations from the view tab. If you do not know the
latitude and longitude of your locations, see the Adding Pushpin Locations
section above.

1. Edit
a pushpin:
a. Click
the Edit link next to the location you would like to change. This opens the
Latitude, Longitude, Title, and Description fields for
editing.
b. Make
changes to the fields as needed.
c. Click
the Cancel link to cancel your changes, or the Update link to update
the map with your changes.
Note: You can only edit specific addresses in the xlsx or xml files (see
the Adding Pushpin Locations section above).

2. Delete
a pushpin:
a. Click
the Delete link next to the location you would like to remove. This brings
up a window asking you to verify that you wish to delete.
b. Click
OK.
|

|
3. Add
a pushpin:
a. Click
the Add New link at the bottom of the list.
b. Add details
to the Latitude, Longitude, Title, and Description fields.
c. Click
the Cancel link to cancel your changes, or the Update link to update
the map with your new location.
Note: You can only add specific addresses in the xlsx or xml files (see the
Adding Pushpin Locations section above).

Publishing the Map
|
|
You can only publish the map after you have saved it.
|
|
1. Click
the publish tab. The code for the map appears in a text box.
|

|
|
2. Copy
the code from the text box and paste it into the code for your site.
|

Purchasing your Subscription
|
|
Purchase your subscription to the map for $10.00 per month or 1000
uses per month. We will send an email update when you have less than 10% of your
uses remaining.

1. Click
the subscribe tab. The Subscribe button will appear.
|

|
|
2. After
clicking the Subscribe button, you will be directed to the PayPal site. Fill
out your details and then press Continue.
|

|
3. Follow
the instructions on PayPal. When finished, you will receive a confirmation message
on the publish page.
